My son Jack's 7th birthday party was today (his birthday was actually on the 21st), and about 25 kids aged 2 to 10 were running hither and yon through the house. I caught a 7 year old girl idly writing a hate note to someone, I informed the kids they could wrestle only if they did it outside in the subfreezing temps without their coats, and amazingly, no one threw up. I played some Uncle Rock singalong songs which went over very well even when a smarty pants kid kept turning on the TV to get on my nerves, and eventually the kids crushed a pinata on the floor as it was too cold to take it outside and hang it from a tree. The only person who broke anything - as far as I know - was me. In a hurry to clean toxic cake from the rug, I knocked over someone's wine glass. Now THAT'S a party.
And of course the blizzard was yesterday and it prevented me from playing my first ever party that was not my son's and that sure sucked. NYC resident Jake Leventhal, my good friend Rosanne's boy and one of the first Uncle Rock fans, turned 6 and had requested I play his birthday, but the snow - and the fear-mongering Weather Channel - kept me home. Sorry Jake. I will make it up to you.
Andy Affleck sent me a link to part 3 of our interview from episode 6 of his podcast (entitled
podcrumbs) and in it we speak, among other things, of
1. the paradox of choice vis a vis digital recording
2. how Uncle Rock is a father-and-son project for me and my boy Jack
3. I play My Dear Friend, the ode to "divorcing" a friend (from
Lazyeye)

podcrumbs episode 6Also worth mentioning is founding MTV VJ Adam Curry has a podcast of his own called The Daily Source Code. In his January 17th and 18th podcasts he mentioned Andy's podcrumbs as well as me, and he even played Junkman on on the 18th (also from Lazyeye and featuring B-52 Kate Pierson on backing vocals).
If you wanna hear the podcast from the 18th (Junkman is towards the very end) here's a link:
